A Flegenheimer Antique Amber Blow Mold Embossed Bottle. The Flegenheimers were NYC wine merchants with locations in NY and NJ; Hoboken and Newark.
They commenced in 1876 and was still doing business in 1919. Generations later (today), one family member resurrected the business in Australia. This bottle is extremely scarce.I found only one reference to this bottle in a NJ Bottles Webpage forum; an example found while on a dig. Otherwise, good luck finding another one. The condition is essentially perfect, with no chipping, iridescent coloring, or interior problems. At best, there looks to be a slight inner flaw to the bottom corner that has no signs of exterior damage -- I'm guessing it has to do with the blow mold process. One side is a bit thinner than the other side; the glass thickness is not uniform, and mainly shows darker down the middle; the sides are lighter in color. I'd say light amber with darker areas is the best assessment -- you can see through the bottle. The base has the number "894" and with a slight oval around that. Slight sediment on the interior. There's an inclusion on the tip of the top that. Also, one cool-looking stretched bubble on the side of the bottle, but otherwise, not too many other bubbles are present. Sad to see this one go.
