I dug this'Rare Hair' bottle last fall from an early privy here in Central New York State. 6 1/4 tall, clear flint glass, applied double collar top, pontiled base. Rectangular sunken panels on all four sides.
Three are embossed, back plain for label: D R M I T C H E L L' S // H A I R / B E A U T I F I E R // R O C H E S T E R N. In amazing condition for a dug example, NO Damage, Chips, Cracks or Scratches, it does have an overall light haze on the inside of bottle (see pics) GREAT Character!
Crude, Wavy & Whittled glass, good embossing, drippy applied top & nice pontil. I had planned to have it cleaned before listing, but will let a new owner decide on that because it also displays very well as is. David Mitchell was a Perfumer in Rochester, New York from 1859 until 1865. I've been trying to research this bottle & can only conclude it certainly is a "Rare Hair". Only turned up a handful of these, in aqua & flint glass, and there appears to be (atleast) two embossing variants.
