Rare SMITH'S / MINERAL / & SODA WATERS / NEW YORK - PREMIUM / S / CHARLESTON / S. The "BIG S" Smith is a mid-1840's soda which is very rare undamaged. This example was missing its neck and top, but luckily the break did not go into the shoulder. An actual period blue top was separately applied and is coated with resin to true up the rich blue color. Crude and early, it leans slightly to one side and has an indentation just above the "R" in "PREMIUM" (both in-making flaws). This example will display very nicely in various lighting conditions as the high definition pics reveal. Lightly cleaned, with typical remaining wear, a little scaling, some scattered wear and scratches. No remaining iron oxides (if there were any) but a pontil scar was left around one side of the inside edge of the concave base, lightly touching the opposite side lower in (second to last pic). At arm's length, this soda gives the impression of a nice, dug and lightly cleaned darker blue example.

It should serve as a nice addition until you have the opportunity to spend a couple thousand for another example that displays as nice as this one (that is not repaired). But those opportunities don't come around very often. I'm offering this example for about what I'd charge to repair it. Thanks for looking and good luck!
