The product appears to be a copycat of the even earlier ANDERSON'S COUGH DROPS which is one of the earliest American patent medicines. They even copied the embossed panels. The bottle is 4 3/4 tall with a large crudely flared lip. The Crosby family was located in Cambridge New York and Columbus Ohio in the 1820s-1830s.
O & S Crosby ran a wholesale druggist house in Columbus Ohio. Crosby manufactured medicines in Cambridge NY. This bottle could have been made at a flint glasshouse in NY or elsewhere.
The bottle has a solid rod pontil mark which is typical of very early flint medicines, American and British. The embossing is early serif style also typical of early bottles. This example was found in Western Maryland along the old National Pike that ran from Baltimore to Ohio. Condition - This bottle is clean.
It is an an attic bottle and even has a trace of the original medicine left in the bottom. The pontil rod did not leave much glass on the base but it is obvious that it is pontil marked. An original untouched bottle with no damage. Guarantee - All my items are guaranteed to be authentic antiques as described.
