Blade is full length, lightly used, and stiff to open. Patina covers the blade, and there are sharpening marks; no pitting. Tang stamp is OLCUT / UNION CUT. Acrylic handles with great color and pattern; no cracks or chips in handles. Union Cutlery Company moved to Olean, NY in 1911. In 1952 they changed their name to KA-BAR Inc. OLCUT was another brand name used by Union Cutlery. The beginning use of the Olcut mark is about 1930, and is seen in catalogs up to 1937, and is no longer in the 1938 or 1940 catalogs. OLCUT knives will also usually have a Union Cut mark along with OLCUT. Made by OLEAN CUTLERY COMPANY - affiliate of Union Cutlery Co. Vintage ACRYLIC-HANDLE HUNTER - on a thin Coke-Bottle Frame.
This is an early 20th Century knife with a low-pull clip blade. Knife is 5-3/8 closed with brass liners. The blade steel is carbon steel.
There is an attractive swedge along the blade spine (old-timey workmanship). Thin frame without cracks on the handles. Blade has a good snap; no issues with function. Main blade has excellent matchup with the backspring, and only slight right/left play.
Handles are colorful acrylic with great color and texture. This is not the celluloid that breaks down easily. Used, carried, and sharpened (with some sharpening loss); but blade remains nearly full. Blade has some spotting and patina. Blade is full length, and has not been buffed.
Props used in these photographs are not included in the sale. I have not cleaned, buffed, or otherwise modified this knife. I do not clean knives, as per request from collectors.
