Bigelow Apothecaries, established in 1838, still open today, and the oldest apothecary in the United States. Galen Hunter, a Vermont physician, called it the Village Apothecary Shop and in 1880 Clarence Otis Bigelow, who worked with Dr. Hunter, bought the store and renamed it, C. You can see an image of this bottle at bigelowchemists. The oversize embossed lettering, BIGELOW is the only embossing, but the base of the bottle has T C W & CO.
Wheaton Company was founded in Millville, NJ, and in 1893 they advertised a new shape for prescription bottles, a new handsome design of bottle for druggists. I have never seen another BIGELOW prescription bottle like this one. Collectors and buyers of vintage bottles may recognize the name Bigelow, most often associated with Healy and Bigelow, no connection to this bottle from C. This clear, clean prescription bottle is 5.5 inches tall, 2 inches wide, free of chips or cracks, in near perfect condition.
