Rare SMITH'S / MINERAL / & SODA WATERS / NEW YORK - PREMIUM / S / CHARLESTON / S. Entire neck and top restored with resin - modified glass top applied with resin finish. The SMITH "Big S" soda water is very rare undamaged. Various similar molds in various colors and embossing are known with the New York embossing only, but the Charleston marked example is very early and prized for it's "two cities" front and back. The two damaged examples I have handled were both faintly pontiled and had a little bit of glass "scaling", as with this one. Definitely an 1840's bottle, I believe the early glass reacts unfavorably to southern soil acids. But a nice inside coat of resin and a light outside cleaning rendered this example fit for display. I had a matching glass top which needed the edges to be filed down just a bit to get that sharper early taper shape.

This example has a slight lean to it coming out of the mold and a depression in the shoulder on the PREMIUM side, both in-making and adding character. The lip has a slight lean to it as well so I applied it in a counter slope to the mold lean, which looks pretty balanced.

I will let the pics serve as the best depiction of the condition and description. The color match and join area definitely come off well enough to present a very nice looking example of a rare soda which is probably limited to less than a half dozen whole examples. Good luck, happy hunting and Thanks for stopping by. Rare SMITH'S Mineral / Soda Water Charleston & New York Pro.
