Barker, manufacturing chemists, established their wholesale and retail business in 1895 in a three-story laboratory and sales building at 123 East Water Street, Hanover Square, a building still in use today at Hanover Square in Syracuse. There is limited information about them and their company and the most "recent" identification of them in business is in the 1920 Druggists' Syracuse Directory.

In related research, I was able to find interesting advertising attributed to them and in the 1905 Interstate Medical Journal they have a full-page ad featuring their product, Hexamine, said to be "a Uric Acid Solvent, a Urinary Antiseptic, a Diuretic". All of this is followed by a listing of 111 medicines with prices for 1000 or 5000 tablets. It is a beautiful light amber, four-panel bottle, with embossing on just one panel in all capital letters, in three lines, LARNED AND BARKER CO.

/ MANUFACTURING CHEMISTS/ SYRACUSE, N. It is 4.5 inches tall and 1.25 inches wide at the base, clean, and free of cracks, with a very small chip in the lip of this late1800s bottle. I have owned it for over 50 years but look forward to someone else enjoying this rare piece of a Syracuse NY 19th Century business.
