WW2 MOUNTAIN TROOPS KNIFE 1930s. Division WWII Mountain Troops, TYPE 2 (3 variations were used by US troops).
Phillips head (first patented in 1934), a flat "staple" (lanyard loop) marked U. These multitool knives were also issued to a U. /Canadian combined unit, "The First Special Services Force", sometimes referred to as "The Devil's Brigade", and a fore-runner of the U. Army's Special Forces units of today. Tang stamp: ULSTER / KNIFE Co. Jigged bone handles with hairlines at both center pins and a crack on back upper pin. Blades used, but nearly full. Vintage MULTI-TOOL KNIFE - made for the military. DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE UNITED STATES 10th MOUNTAIN DIVISION for mountain combat during winter - includes special Phillips head for tightening ski bindings. Tang stamp is ULSTER / KNIFE CO / USA. LANYARD LOOP IS STAMPED: U.This is an early 20th Century knife with a clip blade and several tools. Knife is 3-3/8 closed with brass liners. The blade steel is carbon steel.
Blades each have good snap. Main blade has excellent matchup with the backspring, and is tight = no right/left play.
Handles are jigged redbone with good color and texture. Handles have hairline pin cracks at middle pins, and a crack at back, upper pin. Used, carried, and sharpened (with some sharpening loss); but blades remain nearly full.Each blade has some minor spotting and patina. Blades have not been buffed or altered.
