This listing is for a rare WhitallTatum and Co. Hand-blown glass museum specimen jar. The jar dates from between 1870 and1890 and is hand-blown soda lime glass. The glass has natural imperfectionsincluding a few small bubbles and slight waviness in the sides of the glass dueto natural thickness variation. The bottom of the jar is pontiled.
The topflange also has a slight fold where it was attached to the jar body. Lip of the flange is ground glass as seen in the pictures. The lid of the jar reads WHITALL. TATUM & Co PHILADELPHIA NEW YORK.
The lid also has one small hook from which a specimen could have been suspended. The lid has no chips, but. The jar has 2 small chips on the lip. The largest is just about 2 mm wide.
This jar includes the metal screw clamp to hold down the lid of the jar. The clamp show signs of rust but is still entirely functional.The dimensions of the jar are. 2.4 inner jar diameter.
