Offered is a sparkling gem late 1860s - early 1870s Saratoga spring water bottle, embossed on the front. STAR SPRING CO / [raised outline of a star] / SARATOGA N. Crude glass surface with lots of texture, applied lip, deep olive amber glass. 7 3/4 x 3 in.

Gem - Sparkling clean glass, no chips or stain. No damage - looks like a one trip bottle.

The bottle is attributed to manufacture at the. South Stoddard Glass Manufacturing Company, also known as Weeks & Gilson. This company was formed in South Stoddard in 1850 and continued operations till 1873. The company made a wide variety of bottles, including spring water bottles for the popular spas at Saratoga, New York and for mineral springs in Vermont, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Star Spring was reportedly discovered in 1835.

It was originally called President Spring, then Iodine Spring. The Star Spring Co was formed in 1865 and by 1868 had built " the finest resort".
